New Teacher Profile – Ms. Pool

Grace Genova, Staff writer

With so many new faces in the crowd at St. Joseph this year, Ms. Katie Pool is looking to make her mark in the halls of the school, as well. After teaching eighth grade, she is new in the English Department this year.

Q: What made you come to St. Joe’s?
It was recommended by a friend of mine. I felt comfortable and welcomed instantly.

Q: What kind of experience have you had as a teacher?
I spent one year as a teacher for an 8th grade language arts class. I was also a preschool teacher for three years. But this is my first time teaching at a high school level.

Q: Where did you get your degree?
I went to Illinois State University where I majored in English. Then I went to the University of Phoenix and got my degree in secondary education.

Q: Are you from around here?
I’m from Downers Grove–I went to Downers Grove North High School. Actually, a little fun fact is that every single person on my mom’s side of the family also went to high school there.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to read, ride ATVs (Automated Transfer Vehicles), and go to concerts.
