The summer’s over and now you’re wondering where you’re going to spend your time this winter. You probably think there’s nothing to do and this whole winter you’ll be stuck inside keeping warm. Think again. You live so close to the heart of Chicago which is full of winter activities. So gather some of your closest friends or family and spend a day downtown this winter.

One of the most popular winter attractions is Navy Piers Winter Wonder Fest that runs from November 23 to January 6.You can bring the entire family for the indoor playground of 170,000 square feet that include: Chicago Blackhawks skating rink, Ferris wheel, Snowy Summit Climbing Wall, inflatable slides, Reindeer Express Train, Mini Adventure Track presented by Jeep and Dodge, and Pepsi’s Create-a-Cookie. Navy pier also hosts a New Year’s family fireworks event on New Year’s Eve at 6:30 and New Year’s Eve fireworks at midnight aimed at two different age groups.

On the other hand if you are looking for a fun shopping experience make sure to stop by the Water Tower Place Mall. The mall is along the festively lighted Magnificent Mile, which has more than 100 stores and if you’re looking for a place to eat you can stop by one of their many restaurants. Also you can shop on the well known state street which is brightly lighted and you can sometimes here the jazz music playing in the streets adding to the festive winter aura.

Another activity you can take part in is walking along Millennium Park. You can either listen to the carolers that take part in the Chicago tradition caroling at the Cloud Gate by the bean. At the Cloud Gate you can listen to the carolers while enjoying complementary coffee and cider from Caribou Coffee. Afterwards you can go ice-skating at the McCormick ice skating rink which runs from November 18 until March 14.

So if you ever find yourself stuck at home and there is nothing to do make sure to check out these winter activities right in Downtown Chicago.
