The Bulls are in turmoil

The Bulls are in turmoil

The Chicago Bulls ended last season with a major disappointment and they will continue to suffer even more this season. They are without identity. They cannot score; there is no consistent bench play, and no face of the franchise, Derrick Rose to bail them out. The Bulls are irrelevant for the first time in a long time.

The Bulls have lost what allows teams to win, the ability to score! The Bulls are 22nd in the league in points per game with 92 points per game. Their lack of scoring stems from two things, Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer. Derrick Rose, when playing, accounted for much of the points scored. He’s clearly not going to score many points this year while in a cast. The second and probably the most important reason is the absence of a consistent Carlos Boozer. Carlos Boozer has never lived up to the second scorer next to Derrick and now the Bulls need him to step up the most now. Carlos’ average point total has disappointed many Bulls fans.

The Bulls and the “Bench Mob” have always been a match made in Chicago, but all that has been dismantled. The Bench Mob last year was one of the best benches in the league. The bench consisted of key players like C.J. Watson, Kyle Korver, and Ronnie Brewer. Now Ronnie Brewer plays for the Knicks, C.J. Watson signed with the Nets, and Kyle Korver is now on the Hawks. Even Omar Asik signed with the Rockets and is now starting. They made up a top 5 bench in the league. Now the Bulls bench consists of Nate Robinson, Nazr Mohammed, and Marco Belinelli who average 16 points per game combined. While Taj Gibson is still on the team, the Bench Mob has certainly taken a hit.

Derrick Rose is the best player to play for the Chicago Bulls since Michael Jordan. He is the most impactful player next to LeBron James and he is one of the best players in the league. The former MVP and face of the franchise’s absent has been felt and will be felt as long as he is out of action. Derrick Rose averaged 25 points per game over two seasons. His return to the team this season is up in the air, but the Bulls season would not be if he returns.

The Bulls have suffered a lot since the collapse of Derrick Rose in Game 1 of the playoffs and their suffering will only get worse as long as Derrick Rose is out of the lineup. As long as they can’t score, get good bench play, and as long as Derrick Rose is hurt, the Bulls will not win. If they should start tanking games is a question for another time.
