Boys basketball team ready for deep postseason run

The Charger varsity boys’ basketball team is now a stunning 22-5 and dwindling down to its last games of the season.  The regionals began March 3 for the state tournament. The Chargers recently came off a loss against Providence in the Catholic League Championship game, taking second place at the tournament, but tying for the conference championship in the North Division.

Nick Rackocevic, Jordan Ash, Joffrey Brown and Glynn Watson received all-conference trophies for their efforts this season. Ash was named Player of the Year in the North Division.

Coach Gene Pingatore has strong belief in this group and wants to go all the way as the program looks for its first state championship since 1999.

I asked current player Joffrey Brown, what does it take to go downstate and he simply said “play defense and play hard with every possession”

Nazareth Academy is the first game of the regionals for the Chargers, and a win there would get the Chargers to the Regional final at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6.
