Rising to the Top: Varsity Girls Volleyball first place in conference for the first time in history

Seton was the game that was going to put the girl’s volleyball team into first place in their conference. It has never been done before for the female volleyball team at St. Joseph. With all the pressure on their backs the Lady Chargers knew how to handle it and came back with a win. The chargers won with the winning scores of 25-10 and 25-19 putting them in first place for the first time. This achievement would not have been possible without our coach, Coach Gonzalez. An accomplishment like this should be kept hidden; the whole school deserves to know!

Beating the home team on their senior night had to have been a big loss for Seton. Senior Rachel Luczak hit the winning kill and made the win possible for the Lady Chargers. Serving was a crucial part of this game and it was something that they had been good at for this game. Between the two games the varsity team only gave up eight points due to the missed serves that the Lady Chargers had. Senior Tylr Gbala started the team off with 11 serves in a row and this is what led up to the win.

“Mistakes are going to happen and always will happen, the key is to keep those mistakes minimal” Senior Rachel Luczak said. This game depended a lot on the passing because Seton was not able to hit. The passing was needed so that the setter may set up kills. The Chargers brought their A game and it was enough to end up on top.

They came home as number one and now let’s see if the Lady Chargers can keep it going and win on their senior night! The volleyball senior night will be on Friday, October 12 at 6:30. The Lady Chargers will be celebrating all the senior which are Tylr Gbala, Melissa Hollingshed, Shaakera Jones, Rachel Luczak, Cammy Ortega, Clarisa Sandoval, and Daisy Soto.
